A year ago I bought a 1992 Honda Beat (PP1) that had been sitting in a barn for six years. Here is what it needed, in the order I found out.
What I replaced
- Timing belt and water pump. The belt was original. Do this first on any Beat you did not service yourself, the E07A is an interference engine.
- Fuel hoses and the in tank filter. The hoses were hard and the filter was full of varnish.
- All four brake calipers, rebuilt. Two were seized solid.
- Soft top. The rear window had split. I went with a new vinyl top and it was a one evening job.
What surprised me
It is genuinely fun at 40 mph. The engine wants to rev, the shifter is a joy, and nothing is intimidating about the speed.
Total spend so far: about 2,400 dollars on top of the purchase price. Photos and a proper build log coming soon.
