The magazine
The magazine holds long-form stories: owner profiles, buyer guides, road trips and more. Anyone can read it.
Finding articles
Articles are grouped in three ways, and each has its own page you can reach from the article:
- Sections, such as Driven, People, Travel and Tech.
- Issues, numbered collections of articles.
- Tags, like the name of a car or a topic.
The search box in the site header also searches the magazine.
Discussing an article
Every published article has its own discussion thread, which you will find below the article. It works exactly like a forum thread, so everything in Using the forum applies: you can reply, quote, like and report. Comments need a logged-in account with a verified email.
Authors are notified when someone comments on their article.
Becoming an author
Only members with the author role can write articles. The role is given by the site team, so there is no button for it. If you would like to contribute, ask in the forum or through the contact page and tell us what you would like to write about.
Writing an article (authors)
Authors see a write page in the magazine. The steps are:
- Start a draft. Drafts are private until you publish.
- Fill in the title, the one-sentence deck under it, and an optional small kicker label above the title.
- Choose a section, an issue and up to 10 tags, separated by commas.
- Add a hero image with a description for people who cannot see it (alt text), and an optional spec card for the car.
- Write the article in Markdown. The same buttons and Preview tab as the forum editor are available.
- Press publish to go live right away, or choose a date and time to schedule it.
You can unpublish your own article at any time. Moderators can also unpublish an article if it breaks the rules.
